Can someone explain what dictates an active or inactiive claim? Can an inactive claim be reclaimed by another prospector? I imagine there's an expiration to a claim holder if the proper fees aren't kept current? Thanks

Hi Margaret, Buying a bag of paydirt can be very good for practicing your panning. While finding a spot to go and get some 'free' gold is an option, if you are living in the colder states, right now might not be a good time to 'get your feet wet'....

Hello fellow prospectors! My name is Dave and I live in a town with a facinating mining history, Aspen. Though most of the town's success was due to it's silver lodes, there have been some occurances of gold vein discoveries (though I've never fou...

Hi Eric I live in Mobile, Alabama. No gold here. I do think there may be some around Montgomery and a little north of there. There were a few mines there "back in the day." My major problem is I am so new to this that I do not know what I am look...

Gold Prospecting with Hooked on Gold Welcomes You!

[Most Recent Quotes from www.kitco.com]

Hello! and Welcome.

Gold Prospecting with Hooked on Gold. WOW! 4 years ago when I started my website, www.hookedongold.com, I never would have imagined I would be here beginning a social site on gold prospecting. The website has been a blast to edit, write, and answering all the questions and helping people with their problems with prospecting has been , well, exhilerating, and I must say I have loved every minute.

For anyone here who does not know me, my website, and my prospecting blog www.hookedongold.blogspot.com, you should know that I am a prospector with over 20 years of experience. While I may look like a Dudette, I want to assure you that I really do know a couple of things about prospecting, prospecting equipment and the ins and outs of the regulations, too. I know how to do everything from run a gold pan faster than most sluicers, to filing a claim. I am married to my lifelong love, Larry, who also is very versed in this activity and assists me with the things I do not have all the facts on. I ask occassionally, but not often. We highbank, dredge, metal detect, pan, sluice, AND prospect. We will see you out there....on the river, in the mountains, in the desert, and in the park. As Always..
Good Prospecting to You,
Shirley

Helpfull Hints Tips and Facts Did you know???

Hunting gold and silver with a metal detector in the same area for the last 6 years, and averaging about 20 days per year, sounds like the lazy way to prospect for metals. Working for a living cuts our hunting time to weekends. Hunting gold above timberline, limits us to 5 months a year. The ground can be frozen solid from snow and daily rain.

Newly Claimed Areas on Point Bar, Colorado

I'm slowly getting back to blogging. If you have been following the Prospectors Blog on my website, you have already found some of the information I need to post here. I usually update most information there first, and now it is your turn. :>D The latest news today was about Point Bar Recreational Area near Salida, Colorado. You should know first, that 4 claims were filed with the BLM in September overfiling Point Bar State land and Rincor.

The State land and Rincor, of course, were disallow… Continue

Gold Prospecting with School Kids

Coming home after a summer of prospecting fun certainly has its' challenges! There is all the unpacking, of course, but when you are gone so long there seems to be two of everything that needs to be gone through, consolidated, and put away or thrown away. Then there are all the normal things that go on in everyday life that have to be kept up. WHEEW.

Propsecting is still going on, but now we begin to 'mine' with kids schools groups by teaching what we know to them. We had snow yesterday in Colo… Continue

End of Our Gold Prospecting Season

The end of our gold prospecting season is here and although there will be short trips about during the fall and winter, most of our time for looking for gold is over until next summer. It was a great year, although we did not find as much gold as we have in other years.

Several things are happening with Cache Creek and Point Bar that I will be updating you on in the next week or so. I hope that all of you had a prosperous gold season.

Gold is making a surge here in October and we are all anxio… Continue

Denver Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show

If it's mid September, it must be time for the Denver Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show! The Colesium is also filling up with vendors this year at both the big arena and the Western Complex on the north side of I-70. That makes all of the Merchandise Mart, two hotels, the Colesium, the Western Complex and the bead show out in Aurora. The show is growing and certainly has an amazing number of specimens and gemstones for you to choose from.

Oh, did I mention GOLD? No? Well, you will find some amazing… Continue
